Reading an aid checklist

Start with the question

Start with the checklist supplied by your institution. Note the document name, the office requesting it and the accepted delivery method. Confirm unclear requirements directly with that office rather than sending sensitive documents to an information website.

Identify who issued the checklist

An institutional checklist can differ from a general guide, even when document names sound familiar. Start by identifying the issuing office and the term or year it covers. Check whether the institution provides a secure upload route and whether a signature, date or specific form version is required. Do not send identity, tax or household documents to an information website simply because it discusses the same topic.

Handle an unclear item one question at a time

Copy the exact item name into a question for the aid office and explain what is unclear. Ask whether the item applies to your situation, what form is accepted and how receipt is confirmed. Keep the reply with the checklist. Do not interpret a missing item as proof that an award has been refused or that an amount will be available once the item is sent.

Preparation notes

  • Record the issuing office and academic period.
  • Use only the institution approved document channel.
  • Keep the reply explaining any unclear requirement.

A reading exercise, not a personal recommendation

For practice, read a checklist that names a document but does not explain the accepted version. Draft one question asking the issuing office which version is acceptable and which secure route to use. Do not fill that gap with a guess or send a private document merely to test the route.
